Working with Alert Visualizations
The Alerts visualization has two visualization types:
Trend allows you to create line or bar charts showing alerts trends, supports stacking, and can display all alerts or a filtered set.
Table allows you display a filtered set of alerts, showing alert name, status, time it occured, severity and available actions.
To creat a new Alerts Visualization, simply select Alerts from the New Visualizations.
Alert Data configuration
The data source configuration is common to both Alert trends and tables.
By default all alert data sources are selected, but you can choose specific data or log and trace data sources.
If you leave Alert matches All then it will pull all alerts. If want to filter the alerts for specific hosts for example you will need to specify one or more filters.
A filter is a single field, condition and value. If multiple filters are defined, they will be combined in a single logical filter using And
For example if you specified three filters they would joined together: Overall Filter = Filter1 and Filter2 and Filter3.
To create a filter simply select a field name, select a list operation (is, is not, contains, starts with, ends with) and set a value. The list operations available will be dependent on the type of field selected.
You can create multiple filters, simply click on the Add Filter button below the filter, repeat thes steps above for the number of filters required.
Alert trend options
For Alert trend visualization you specify a Bar, Line or Area chart.
To create an Area chart select the Line chart option and set Fill to 1.
Alert table options
For Alert table visualizations you can specify the fields you wish to see as columns. Simply select the fields from the Column drop down list. The fields will show as tags, you can reorder the tags and that will change the column order. Circonus provides a recommended column order by default.
